I want the world of mizuhiki to be opened wide. Such is the statement expressed by the mizuhiki mask.
Treasuring its place in traditional ceremonies, I wish to make better use of materials and techniques unique to Japan.
In creating the mask, the first step was to eliminate preconceived notions about mizuhiki. In doing so, I achieved a true sense of freedom, one that stimulated my creative longings.
Each delicate cord has come into being through techniques cultivated by the ancestors for tying, braiding, and rolling, and is ultimately reborn in a new form. The radiant future can be glimpsed in the myriad emotions expressed by the mask.
