Manufacturer’s comments

The ocarina is an ancient flute-like wind instrument made out of clay. It is often ceramic, but other materials may also be used such as plastic, wood, glass, clay and metal. Variations do exist, but a typical ocarina is an enclosed space with four to twelve finger holes and a mouthpiece that projects from the body

The ocarina, unlike other vessel flutes, has the unusual quality of not relying on the pipe length to produce a particular tone. Instead the tone is dependent on the ratio of the total surface area of opened holes to the total cubic volume enclosed by the instrument. This means that, unlike a flute or recorder, sound is created by resonance of the entire cavity and the placement of the holes on an ocarina is largely irrelevant — their size is the most important factor.

Japan is the great nation know as “Made in Japan” which represents its high quality in various products all over the world. However, “sound making” is very sophisticated.
Sound making requires much more sophisticated process far beyond making products.
Most of Japanese manufactures except musical instruments manufactures walk away from sound making as it is so hard and most of them give up before sound comes out.

It might be considered offbeat to produce such musical instrument made out of clay!
However, we strive to produce ocarina fighting against clay every day straightforwardly in order to produce ocarina made out of clay. The reason why we strive every day is that we love such characteristic sound made out of clay from the bottom of our hearts. And we have seen many people who felt at ease and comforted by ocarina’s characteristic sound.

People need time to feel good bonding with sounds. I believe that this simple and handy musical instrument will echo within your mind and enrich the lives of everyone.
