"Iromarukubi[Color Crew Neck]", the pioneering Japanese T-shirt born in the mid-1950s.
On our 70th anniversary, not satisfied with simply revisiting a replica version of the original T-shirt, but rather to make a product only possible by combining traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, we launched the "Iromarukubi made by Kume Co., Ltd" development project.
The development work started from a strict selection of the raw cotton, cotton spinning, weaving, dyeing, cutting and sewing methods...
Although labor intensive and time-consuming, each manufacturing process was tested and verified in order to decide the best method for each step, to ensure harmony of the entire process.
The T-shirt made by third-generation Japanese T-shirt makers, together with veteran craftsmen, following the Japanese concepts of "Shu/Ha/Ri".
We proudly announce "Iromarukubi made by Kume Co., Ltd".

1. Fabric that is pleasant to the touch
The biggest change from the original Iromarukubi is the fabric used.
The development team wanted to have a fabric only possible with modern techniques that they themselves would want to wear.
To enable this, they needed to develop an "entirely new fabric" never available on the market until now.
During the fabric development process, carefully selected extra long staple cotton was spun into delicate “NE80 two folded yarn” using spinning machine settings and dyeing processes devised from many years of experience, while also aggressively including modern technology.
Finally, a smooth and naturally glossy, pleasantly thick and yet crisp fabric was created.

2. Colors with a taste of "Wa"
Japan enjoys a rich palette of colors born from the four seasons of the year, as well as delicately different hues such as Shijyuhattchahyakunezu[Japanese traditional browns and greys].
Of those colors that closely identify with "Iki", the Japanese or "Wa" aesthetic, we have chosen six.

3. A pattern to pursue natural fit
The pattern has been cut to pursue a natural fit that is appropriate for discerning adults.
The collar width is narrower than the original Iromarukubi, while the exquisitely weaved circular knitted fabric is draped and has a flowing shoulder cut, enabling a naturally form fitting silhouette which is both uncomplicated and elegant.

4. Keeping the tradition alive
Traditional Kume Co., Ltd. details such as tubular form, neckline binding, bar-tacks, and blind hem stitching are inherited by this new Iromarukubi.
In addition, the attention to detail and techniques afforded by veteran craftsmanship have been kept alive in numerous little details.

5. Proof of manufacture in Japan
The red collar tab, which is the heart and soul of the new Iromarukubi, was designed by calligrapher Juichi Yoshikawa.
Next to the laundry instruction label on the sleeve, a red "JAPAN MADE" tag proudly states the Japanese origins of this T-shirt.
