There are thoughtful organic farmers trying to grow cotton following the natural cycles and without using agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers.
With respect to their challenge, and with fervent aspirations to support them as much as possible, we started producing the organic cotton t-shirts in 1999, and have been involved in PR activities as members of NPO Japan Organic Cotton Association (JOCA).
These T-shirts are spun, woven, cut, and sewn in Japan, in an environmentally friendly way using as little chemicals as possible. Cotton wool for the t-shirts is grown with care and imported from organic farms in the U.S.
Also at present, we are participating and supporting a project to grow Japanese organic cotton (Happy Cotton Balls) in Japan.
By the efforts of the project members, we have come closer to our goal of continuously producing Japanese organic cotton t-shirts made purely in Japan in the future, no matter how small the amount would be.

1.Materials
100% organic cotton (non-profit Japan Organic Cotton Association ORGANIC PURE certified) has been spun into NE20 SZ yarn, and then made into plain stitch fabric. This fabric is used for the body and sleeves.
By combining S-twist and Z-twist yarn into a plain stitch, the bowing common to plain stitching is reduced.
The collar section uses circular rib fabric with optimal gauge and density, weaved from folded yarn made with two NE40 yarn.
The carefully weaved fabric has not been dyed in order to preserve the natural feel of organic cotton. Only soaping has been done to remove natural oils, and the fabric has a natural raw color.
The occasional brown grains in the fabric prove the natural processes used for the T-shirt.

2. Pattern
In order to enjoy the pleasant texture unique to organic cotton fabrics, the T-shirt uses a pattern that is simple, comfortable, and naturally fitting.
The pattern is cut to ensure a timeless and comfortable shape.

3. Sewing
To match the natural feeling of organic cotton, the threads and shoulder support tapes selected for this T-shirt use cotton materials.
Veteran craftsmen used various techniques and attention to detail such as using blind hem stitching for the sewing method due to its flexibility and strength, to go together with stretch-resistant cotton threads; the collar ribbing uses twin-needle stitching to avoid unpleasant friction around the collar area, while bar-tack stitching is used to prevent the twin-needle stitching from unraveling, and the bar-tack is cleverly hidden in the shoulder seam.


4. Collar tab
On the collar, a cotton "Made by Kume Co., Ltd" tab (Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified) exclusive to organic cotton T-shirts is attached.
The calligraphy was designed by calligrapher Juichi Yoshikawa.
