What is Senbei?
The origin of SENBEI (Japanese traditional snack) goes back to 1200 years ago, when Kuukai (a Buddhist priest) brought them back from China. This long history tells that Senbei has been an extremely familiar snack to Japanese people. Senbei is simply baked sticky rice, flavored with soy sauce usually, so it is very crispy and not too sweet. It is a great snack as it fills up your stomach. The reason for its round shape is unknown, but it was already very popular in Edo period. Of course, we see many Senbei shops (selling strictly Senbei only) all over Japan, even today.
Characteristics of the product
As explained above, Senbei is a snack; however, this Senbei is a bit different. It is a purse that holds coins. You usually never find a purse that looks like Senbei anywhere in Japan, so it is a one of a kind. It comes in three color variations: dark brown that is so close to real Senbei, golden caramel brown and light beige. The exquisite coloring and genuine pig leather with rough texture make this purse look so real that people can be easily tricked for sure! (Please do not eat it though.) By the way, the manufacturer for this product is "Maruyo Katano Bag Company" in downtown Tokyo, famous for their specialization in leather processing. Their fresh idea behind this unique product shines through.
